SSE Business Lab now welcomes its latest startup cohort – the most experienced in its history. Among the founders are serial entrepreneurs and former executives from companies such as Klarna, Tipser and Voi. Several have previously built companies valued in the billions – and are now launching their next ventures from the Lab.

With the aim to advance dialogue and education on key societal and business issues, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has strengthened its long-standing collaboration with the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØ(SSE) as a Capital Partner. With a particular focus on innovation, resilience and AI, BCG hopes to engage students, contribute with expertise, and help shape solutions.

Around 120,000 students are finishing compulsory school in Sweden this month—many of them with limited information about future career and educational options. Preliminary findings from an ongoing study at the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØshow that adolescents tend to overestimate the salaries of electricians and real estate agents, while underestimating earnings by hairdressers and programmers. The researchers are now looking for more career professionals and schools to get involved in the study.

War in Europe, cyberattacks, and disruptions in global supply chains – recent events have made it clear how vulnerable our society is and how crucial it is to build resilience. To meet this challenge, the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØis launching the Center for Security and Resilience, focusing on security in a broader sense.

Markets don’t just drive the economy – they shape our society. As long-held truths are challenged and new systems take form, we need a deeper understanding of what markets are, how they work, and what they should deliver. With support from the Handelsbanken Research Foundations, the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØis now establishing a new professorship and a new interdisciplinary research center.

Which sustainability efforts actually improve business performance? A new research project from the House of Innovation at the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØ School of Economics, in collaboration with sustainability tech company Position Green, aims to find out. By analyzing data from over 750 companies, the research project will map how emissions, working conditions and diversity in leadership affect margins, returns and risk.

Emma Bell has been appointed H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Chaired Professor in Leadership at the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØ(SSE). A leading researcher in leadership and organisation studies, Professor Bell will focus on how leadership is performed, perceived, and shaped by societal expectations.

Italian firms led by female CEOs have more women on average in the top management team than those led by men, according to a new study from the º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØin Sweden and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy. The association weakens if the CEO lacks sufficient decision-making power or if she works for a family-owned company.

º£½ÇÉçÇøÏÂÔØ(SSE) is pleased to welcome the optician group Synsam as a Retail Club Partner at the Center for Retailing. Synsam’s expertise in retail and innovation will bring valuable insights to both research and education at SSE’s Retail Management-program.  

According to the Financial Times’ newest ranking of Europe’s startup hubs, dramatic changes are afoot: half of last year’s leading hubs have vanished from the list, while SSE Business Lab has surged ahead. Now ranked at number eight, SSE's incubator is the only Nordic hub to earn a place in the top ten.
